Tree Trimming & Pruning

What's the difference?

You've probably heard these terms used interchangeably, but did you know there are some distinct differences? While pruning generally refers to the removal of specific branches or limbs to improve tree health and structure, trimming is more typically associated with shape and appearance.

Why is it necessary?

Tree pruning helps keep your trees healthy and safe by removing potentially hazardous branches and limbs, dead or diseased branches, and improving tree structure. It can also benefit your property by improving the appearance of your landscape, and can sometimes be an alternative solution to tree removal. While there are some cases where tree removal might be the more appropriate option, tree trimming and pruning services might help with: trees overcrowding an area of your property; branches getting too close to or touching a structure or roof; and low branches interfering with use of your yard or other areas of your property.

How do I know what would be beneficial to my trees and property?

During our in-person property visit, we listen to any concerns you have, and offer recommendations tailored to your specific needs while also taking into consideration what's beneficial for the health of your trees. Our approach to tree trimming and pruning is that less is sometimes more. We take off only what needs to be removed to achieve the end goal.

I want to trim or prune my trees, but don't want my property damaged in the process...

We operate with a lower impact approach to protect and preserve your lawn and surrounding property throughout the work process. For most of our tree pruning work that involves working at height, we complete the work using professional tree climbers who have the skills and knowledge to safely and properly trim and prune your trees. Occasionally, we may also used specialized equipment such as an aerial lift or crane. If we have to bring any equipment onto your lawn, we take extra care to minimize the impact. After the work is completed, we will thoroughly clean any areas affected by the work process, including: raking your lawn, blowing off your driveway or walkways, and cleaning up any debris in the street. Before we leave, we will do a final inspection of your property to make sure nothing was missed. For projects that are close to a property line, we will do the same cleanup process for any debris on your neighbor's side.

Do you prune trees near power lines, houses, decks, etc.?

Every tree situation is different, and we therefore need to evaluate the conditions in-person before we are able to determine if we can provide a quote. We do prune trees that are in close proximity to structures and other property features utilizing various techniques and methods to perform the work safely. For example, we may setup rigging to direct and lower branches away from your home or roof after they've been cut; in certain situations we may also use a crane to assist in the process. For trees that are near power lines, safety is our top priority. Some projects we might be able to work around a service drop (the power wire that goes from the street to your home) or other utility lines, but if necessary we may require the power company to disconnect the power to your home prior to the work being started; and then reconnect it when the work is finished. We don't perform line clearance pruning on trees that are on the edge of a main road with branches going through the wires that are connected to utility poles (pole to pole wires). Generally that kind of tree pruning is managed by the power company or town.
